Fucking mind-blowing. The F22 can have all the technology in the world and may be as combat efficient as it wants, but it'll never ever ever be as agile as the russian planes and it'll never be anywhere near as pretty either.

I love how the smoke curls away from the tailplanes so symmetrically, and that they can turn it on and off. Also, I love the decoration of the aircraft. The large red star on the top gives it a comic book appeal. And those maneuvers. They didn't even bother with the Herbst Maneuver. That's kid stuff for this grown up OVT.

In fact the F-22 hasn't been fielded in a combat role yet.

The Russians have also developed covert ECM systems for their fleet only that is not for export markets. Having seen their new ECM systems like the Shrota on their T-90s I would be apprehensive about declaring their combat inferiority just yet.

Futhermore the Mig-29 is a spec system meant for combat with the F-16 and the F/A-18 Hornet not the F-22 Raptor.

Possibly the Mig-35 or Su-47 is the plane for that role. I will actually maybe know tomorrow, its the 60th anniversary of Russia's V day and the first time in many decades a full military parade will be taking place, will probably get to see alot of tech.

We get a bit of a directional cue from the smoke trails, but I'd be much happier watching the plane from further away with a steady camera or one moving independently of the craft so we can actually see it move through the sky.

Coincidentally, it's the same thing that's wrong with some action scenes.

sigh. look ma, no proof! some people sure like to talk out of total ignorance. if you are going to say that any nation's technology is guaranteed to best another's in battle, you should show some proof. i wouldn't say the us or the russians would best the other, because it's clear enough that they're both working within the same approximate generation of aircraft technology. it's naive to assume that one country has a weapon that cannot be countered in any way by the rest of the world. if there is ever a real possibility of that, you can expect a real possibility of nuclear war to follow it. whoever said one f22 would best 10 mig35s is probably wiping his ass with red white and blue toilet paper.

And on paper the Raptor suppose to be really agile as well, and is able to pull off most of the maneuvers, ie: the "Pugachev's Cobra". The reason the Su-27 Flanker and Mig-29 family is so agile is bc of the unstable Delta wing config, along with unstable large frame.

And Farhad that is the Mig-35 you are looking at. It is not the counter to F-22 at all, it's suppose to be the alternative of Euro-fighter 2000. Now the Su-37 is suppose to be the cheaper counter maesure to F-22 it is one of the 1st planes to have Thrust vector engine, as well as ultra long range front and rare mount radar for detecting stealth aircraft also some radar cross section reduction. But the plane is still too expensive for the Russians and so far no other countries are willing to shell out the money for it. There are also prototypes of the Mikoyan Project 1.44 and the Su-47(It is kind of a dropped project like the YF-23 Black widow) also Sukhoi PAK FA which is the Sukhoi's answer to F-22 and F-35, they are what to be considered of Russian 5th Gen fighters that's on par with F-22 and F-35.

It costs a bit more than either, but it'll tear the wings off either one in a dogfight.

Question is, which gets the first look/first kill? That's purely a function of classified electronics, so who knows.

Ok, looks nice. But what is it good for? I believe there are no real dogfights anymore nowadays. And you cant outmaneuver a missile, even with that.

Speaking of which, it has been clarified before, that the cobra maneuver is extremely dangerous in combat.

And why the hell do they have a big soviet star painted on the plane???

A roommate maintains the 22s currently in service, and was privy to some of their last war games statistics. Basically they were the first to arrive to the sortie and left after launching their payloads without suffering any losses.

It might not be the most cost effective from a pure equipment standpoint, but when you include the costs of training the human resources involved, I'd pay a premium for the 22 over "10 MiGs" any day.
